Reports to: Officer in Charge

Description:

Chief of Staff is the executive officer and the administrative backbone of the brigade staff. Even in the unlikely absence of both an officer-in-charge and deputy officer-in-charge to lead the brigade, the chief of staff should be able to maintain efficient and uninterrupted operation of the staff and the brigade until Forces Command can assign a new officer in charge. The primary function of the chief of staff, under the guidance of the officer in charge, is to ensure smooth and fluid communication and coordination between the staff officers and also between the support staff and command staff.

Specific Duties:

  • Understand the function and duties of the other staff officers.

  • Coordinate between the OIC and the staff officers communicating instructions and information between the staff officers and the OIC clearly and efficiently.

  • Coordinate with the staff officers to ensure efficient and cooperative management of duties.

  • Directing the staff officers as necessary to coordinate with each other on specific tasks.

  • Be aware of issues with the staff officers and to communicate issues and recommendations to the OIC for correction and resolution. (ex. workload, performance, etc.)

  • Identify operational issues in the staff model and communicate these issues and recommended solutions to the OIC for correction.

  • Assist the OIC and DOIC as necessary and when able, to support duties of specific staff roles where vacancies exist or the staff officer assigned is temporarily unable to perform their duties.

Role-Specific Qualifications:

  • Must possess good administrative skills: organization, communication and professionalism

General Qualifications:

  • must be 18 years of age or older

  • must be a member of the Brigade they are serving (Residency in the BDE is not a requirement, but may be preferred by the Officer in Charge.)

  • Possess good organizational and planning skills

  • Possess good time management skills

  • The ability to communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing.

  • The ability to deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.

  • Exercise responsibility, discretion, and judgment in making decisions.

  • Be able to follow policy and procedure as set forth in the STARFLEET Bylaws and Membership Handbook, the Marine Force Manual and the Policy Manual.

    In addition, you *MUST* have:

  • A consistent Internet connection and be willing to acknowledge all emails sent to you with 48 hours.

  • Be willing to take direction as needed to accomplish the duties.

  • Have a good working knowledge of the Marine Force Manual

  • Have a proficient understanding of office productivity software (Word, Excel, etc.)

  • Have access to and a proficient understanding of google services (Google Drive & file sharing)

Training Requirements:

  • OTS: Officers Training School (Preferred)

  • PD-100: Marine Basic Course (Preferred)

  • PD-201: Primary Leadership Development Course (Preferred)

  • SFDPP-101: STARFLEET Data Protection Policy (Part 1)

  • SFDPP-102: STARFLEET Data Protection Policy (Part 2)
